Admission Process in Canada
If you are coming to Canada for the purpose of study for more than six months you must apply for a study permit. But before you apply for a study permit, you must have been accepted at a university or college in Canada. Job Prospect in Canada
You may be able to work in Canada Under certain conditions. Students who do not have a study permit are not eligible.
If you hold a study permit, you can work on campus for the institution you are attending if it is publicly funded and grants degrees. No separate work permit is required. Full-time students may also be eligible to work off-campus for any employer. Work permits usually allow up to 20 hours per week during the term, and full-time during holidays.
Some university programs require work experience. International students who want to enrol in internship program must apply for a work permit in addition to their study permit. If you would like to work in Canada after graduating, you must apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program.
If you would like to stay in Canada as a permanent resident after graduating, there are a number of programs available, each with its own requirements.
If you are enrolled full time in a publicly funded post-secondary institution and you have a valid study permit, your spouse can apply for an open work permit, which means that neither an offer of employment nor a Service Canada labour market option is required. Your spouse work permit will be valid for as long as your study permit is valid.

What is the application procedure?
To study in Canada, you must be accepted in a study program by a recognized Canadian University on the basis of your academic qualifications and meeting up university entry requirements. But before that you should shortlist the universities you need to apply based on what you want to pursue. It is advisable to apply early in Canadian university; normally international students should apply to a Canadian university up to eight months in advance. Some universities have application deadlines as late as June for a September start date. Typical entry points for international students are the September and January semesters. However, many universities have adopted “rolling admissions” procedure, which means that they consider international students’ applications throughout the year.
For a professional degree and Post-Graduate program, a high level of academic achievement is required for admission. Often at least two years of undergraduate study in a related field are required before you can be admitted to the professional degree program.
What is the language entry requirement?
You have to be proficient in English or French, depending on the University you choose. Most universities require a TOEFL score of 560 + or a score of 70 on the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL). However Canadian French-language universities usually assess applicants on a case-by-case basis.
What is the time span to earn a degree?
An undergraduate degree takes three to four years to complete. All honours programs require a higher level of achievement in the subject. An honours degree is generally a forerunner for admission into graduate studies. A master’s degree usually requires at least one year of full-time study. A doctoral degree, or PhD, requires at least three years of additional full-time study, with at least one year on campus.
Is the degree globally recognised?
A degree from a Canadian University is recognized around the world and is usually equivalent to an American degree or a degree from another Commonwealth country. Professional and specialized programs such as medicine, nursing and engineering are accredited by reputable agencies. Current and new academic programs are regularly reviewed by provincial, institutional or regional bodies to ensure the quality standards.
